ACLS and Advanced Life Support

American Red Cross and American Heart Association

ACLS and Advanced Life Support is designed for healthcare providers and first responders. This course will teach to assess, recognize and provide high-quality care to patients experiencing life-threatening medical emergencies, including shock, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and respiratory events, as well as resuscitation training, improve skills retention, and better serve patients. This class can be offered live as an initial or renewal course in the classroom setting or as a blended learning option that involves an in person skills session with an instructor.

Red Cross ALS courses are designed for professional healthcare providers who participate in the assessment and management of critical patients, including those working in in-hospital, pre-hospital, and out-of-hospital medical facilities.

ACLS providers that require ARC certification can benefit from ALS courses as well. The Resuscitation Suite® courses continue to gain acceptance since 2019, however we recommend all students to consult with their employer, organization, or school when making a decision for certification.

What information will the ALS course cover?

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of ACS and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
